Good evening!

DAILY REMINDERS:

• NO SCHOOL TOMORROW due to Professional Development for teachers.
• Tomorrow night is ALL DISTRICT NIGHT at the high school.  Come watch your fellow Crestwood Flyers in the chariot races (wagons) and cheer on the Varsity Football team! 
• Homework:  Read and practice tying shoelaces.
• Crestwood First Grade is collecting donations of tubes of toothpaste for the children of Haiti.  If you have time to pick up a tube over the weekend for the cause and can send it to school on Monday with your child, it would be very much appreciated!  Thank you to the friends who have donated already! (:
• Next week I will be sending home conference letters to either confirm your conference time or ask you to request a conference day (Monday, October 29 or Thursday, November 1).  Please be on the lookout for this GREEN letter and return it to school ASAP.  Thank you!
• I still have a few students who need to turn in their permission slip and $$ for our field trip to Powell Hall.  We go on October 10th.  If you need another permissions slip, please let me know ASAP.

As always, we were very busy at school today:

• Word Work:  We took our Week 5 spelling test.  I will grade these over the weekend, and return them to students on Monday.  If your child has a salmon colored "Retrain My Brain" paper attached to their test, please have them complete it at home and send only that paper back the next day.  You can keep their test at home. 
• Writing:  We continue to work on our Question/Answer pattern book. 
• Daily 5:  We practiced our center rotations again today.  Not sure we're ready for the "real deal" yet, but we're going to give it a shot beginning Monday or Tuesday.
• Math:  We practiced the addition strategy--ORDER PROPERTY.  When adding the same 2 numbers together and then change their order in the addition sentence, the SUM stays the SAME (2 + 3 = 5, 3 + 2 = 5).     

Here is the picture of the graph we made yesterday in honor of Johnny Appleseed Day.  We graphed our favorite apple food.  Apple Cider was the winner!  Apple cookies came in 2nd place.
Ask your first grader some questions about the graph (For example....How many more people liked apple cookies than apple juice?)

    

• Science:  We learned about what seasons are and talked about the 4 seasons in a year.
