DAILY REMINDERS:
- Homework: Spelling worksheet, read, and practice tying shoelaces.
- We read the big book When This Box is Full. Every month the character adds something new to her box that corresponds with the month or time of year. We discussed the months of the year and why she added certain items to her box.
- We read A Nap for Zap. We discussed and listed all the short a and -ap word family words in the story.
- During our writing time, we continued working on our days of the week books and book covers. I also taught a mini-lesson on "stretching words" we don't know how to spell. It is important for your first grader to sound spell or stretch words they do not know how to spell. It is much more beneficial for them if they do this rather than ask us to spell the word for them.
- Our word work activity was choosing 4 words (one from each of the word families -at, -an, -ap, -ad), write and illustrate each word. Your first grader is learning that words that are in the same family are easy to read and spell since they have the same ending chunk.
- We practiced capital and lowercase Pp for our Daily 5 center: Work on Writing.
- We continue to work on our stamina during Read to Self.
- In math, we learned a new addition strategy--doubles. When you add 2 numbers that are the same, that is a doubles fact.
- Spelling Test Friday
- Library Friday
- Last day for Book Fair is Thursday, September 20.
