HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHNNY APPLESEED!
DAILY REMINDERS:
- Homework: Practice spelling words. The TEST is TOMORROW! Read and complete this week's Weekly Reading Record, and turn it in tomorrow.
- NO SCHOOL this Friday, September 28th.
We had a great time celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday today!
- Before we read the book Johnny Appleseed, My Story we talked about who Johnny Appleseed was.
- We made a short a apple tree. The students made a tree with brown and green construction paper and colored, cut, and glued on pictures having the short a vowel sound.
- For our snack we ate our apples dipped in caramel. Before we ate them; however, we guessed how many seeds we thought our apple had inside. After Mrs. DuPree sliced our apple, we counted the seeds inside and glued them onto a picture of an apple.
- We watched a BrainPop Jr. video about Johnny Appleseed and the Water Cycle. Since we took our Weather test, we have been reviewing the water cycle because that was a concept many of us struggled with on the test.
- After lunch our counselor intern did a lesson with our class.
- During math we sampled our apple food items and made a class graph about which food or drink we like the most. Apple Cider was the favorite among the first graders! Please stay tuned tomorrow for a picture of our graph. (The picture I took today did not turn out very well!)
- The read aloud book we started reading today was Apples A to Z.
