Good afternoon!  Today in first grade we:

• took our addition time test.
• read about our country's symbols: the American flag, Uncle Sam, the Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, the American Eagle, the White House, Mount Rushmore, and the Lincoln Memorial.
• learned a new poem called "Doubles Rap" about adding doubles.
• read the story With My Brother and highlighted words with a base word and endings.

THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE SENT IN ITEMS FOR OUR FIRST GRADE RAFFLE BASKET (BACKYARD POOL/SUMMER FUN)!!  THERE'S STILL TIME, IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO SEND AN ITEM IN!  (:

Happy Monday!  At school today we:

• took a subtraction time test.
• celebrated Allison's birthday.  She shared a cookie cake with us for our snack. (:
• did our math centers and practiced skip counting.
• learned new spelling words.
• went to the library.
• worked on new literacy centers and we have new center buddies.
• finished our American flags.  We added the 50 stars.

Good afternoon!  We had a VERY busy day today.

• We took a math time test.
• We celebrated Elisabeth's birthday by eating YUMMY cupcakes she brought for our snack.
• We took several tests today:  spelling and 2 math.
• We made the U.S. flag since we are learning about symbols of our country.
• We practiced taking a spelling test on our clickers.
• We texted Bossy R words on our clickers.
• We typed stories on our Wiki site.  Take a look at the pictures below.  We are working very hard!  Don't forget to read our stories on our Wiki when you get some "free time". http://www.dupree13.pbworks.com/

At school today we:

• watched a video about Abraham Lincoln.
• read a story called With My Brother.
• played a math game called Greater Steps.
• worked on 10 less and 10 more on a math worksheet.
• worked on a Writing Plan (graphic organizer) for a story we are going to write about our family.
• had catch up day for our literacy center time.
• didn't have time to do our greeting at our morning meeting today, since we spent a lot of time on our math warm up.

• TONIGHT @ 7:00 P.M. is  CRESTWOOD PRISM and SCIENCE FAIR.

Welcome back!  We hope you enjoyed your three day weekend!  In first grade today we:

• took an addition time test.
• learned about Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
• participated in our math centers.
• watched a video about the presidents.
• listened to Sophia when she shared her PRISM project about growing flowers in potting soil, peanut butter, jello, and sand.  Take a look at Sophia and her project below.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Welcome back to our blog.  Check out the new "gadgets" on the right side of our blog.  There is a link to an educational math website as well as a fun "Fish" game to play.

At school today we:

• took our spelling test.
• took our math time test today.  A few first graders are getting really close to finishing the addition tests. (:
• learned about the third form of matter--GAS.
• took a science test about Matter on our clickers.
• read a story called Betcha!.  It was about ESTIMATING.
• completed a math workbook page and we had to fill in the missing numbers that came BEFORE, BETWEEN, and AFTER other numbers on a number line.
• wrote details in our winter story, and when we were finished we wrote our own story.
• made a new list in our Writer's Notebook.
• are now keeping all of our writing pieces in a special folder in our desk.

Good news!  Our friend, Erik, won the trivia question about a Rams football player today!

Hello!  In first grade today we:

• took an addition time test.
• participated in math centers.
• took our class picture.
• learned about the symbols for greater than and less than.  We also reviewed the equal to symbol.
• began writing a story about winter and we learned how to write a beginning sentence, details, and an ending sentence.
• learned about another form of matter--liquids.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

• We participated in Jump Rope for Heart.
• We brainstormed about things we can do in the winter.  We will be using these ideas for a story about winter.
• We read a story called You Can Be My Friend.
• We read the poem called "100 Valentines".  We put the lines of the poem in the correct sequence.
• We had our Valentine Party.  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to help out today (Mr. and Mrs. Blaskiewicz, Mrs. Britt, Mrs. Hebert, Mrs. Chiburis, Mrs. and Mrs. Maes-Anthony's grandparents, Mrs. Kroenlein, Mrs. Miletic, Mrs. Schwer, and Mrs. Wagner)!  This was another fantastic holiday party, and we greatly appreciate all the time and effort that went into planning, preparing, and implementing our parties!  Enjoy a few pictures that were taken at the party.

Happy Monday!  We had a busy day:

• We decorated our Valentine boxes.
• We had an assembly about saying no to drugs and smoking and no bullying (get along with others).  He also reminded us to listen to our parents and grandparents.  He taught us how to do cool basketball tricks too.
• We learned how to ESTIMATE in math.
• We have new spelling words for the week.
• We went to the library.

Hello!  Happy Friday!  In first grade today we:

• We took an addition time test.
• We watched the video "One Zillion Valentine's".  We wrote down who the characters were in the story as we watched it.
• We had p.j. day today to celebrate our marble party, and we brought our stuffed animals to school too.
• We learned that we can write 4 tens and 5 ones as 40 + 5 = 45.
• We watched a video called "Peep and Quack in the Big Wild World" and we wrote why Quack was angry using PQPA to answer the question.

• learned about lions from Joey when he presented his PRISM project.

Hello!  We had an exciting day!

• We went to Powell Symphony Hall for a field trip.
• We took an addition time test.
• We wrote about Powell Hall in our Reflections Connections book.  First we brainstormed all the things we heard and saw there.
• We did not do literacy centers since we were on our field trip.
• We didn't have a morning meeting either, since we were gone all morning.
• We had lunch at a different time today, and we sat at a different lunch table.

At school today we:

• finished Mrs. Lenzen's acrostic poem and drew pictures for her.
• talked about tens and ones.  We counted by tens.
• learned what matter is in science.
• started new literacy centers, so we didn't have time for our morning meeting.
• read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and listed words with blends and digraphs from the story.
• watched a video about matter--the properties and forms of matter.

• We wrote an Acrostic poem for Mrs. Lenzen using the letters in her name.  It's National School Counselor's Week!
• We learned about tens and ones in math.
• We took a science test with our clickers, so we saved paper!
• We took an addition time test.
• We had catch up day during our literacy center time.
• We had P.E. again today.
• We went to the library.

There was a lot happening at school today!

• We had a buddy activity.  We sorted hearts and then graphed how many we had of every color.
• We made our Jump Rope for Heart posters.
• We had recess with our buddies.  Some of us went to our buddies class to play and some of us stayed in our classroom to play.
• We graphed our favorite flavor of Tootsie Roll.
• We took our spelling test today.

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!

• We took 2 math tests--one post-test and one pre-test.
• No one moved their monkey to the 5, 10, or 15!  Yipee!! (:
• We used Tootsie Rolls to make a tally table, a concrete graph, and a bar graph.  After that we ate our Tootsie Rolls!  YUM!!
• We read a book called It's Groundhog Day!
• We read the book Snowmen All Year.  We are getting ready to write an Acrostic poem about snowmen.  Will it EVER snow?
• We earned our marble party, and we are going to vote on how to celebrate.

• watched a video about heat and light.
• read a book with Mrs. Whitefield and talked about how it's OK to be different.

• talked about our new character word--COURAGE.
