DAILY REMINDERS:
- Your first grader brought their new spelling list home today. I cut the paper down, so look for the list on shorter paper.
- IMPORTANT/HELPFUL INFORMATION: If you go to this website www.spellingcity.com, click on PARENTS, click on FIND A LIST, type in my name WENDY DUPREE in the enter search term box, click SEARCH, then click on the Week you want to practice. We are currently learning Week 4 words. You can click on different activities to do with your child each week on this site. These are fun and engaging activities to help your first grader learn the words each week.
- Homework tonight: Study new spelling words (try using Spelling City) and READ.
- If you haven't sent in your first grader's Powell Hall field trip permission slip and/or $$, please do so at your earliest convenience. THANK YOU! (:
- We learned another new greeting at our Morning Meeting called, "My Name Is..." Ask your child to say it for you (see if they remember how it goes).
- During shared reading we read the big book My Five Senses and indentified and discussed our five senses and why they are important to us.
- For word work, we sorted words in the -an family (can, man,) and the -ad family (sad, mad) and talked about the vowel sound (short a) you hear in these words. We also discussed how you can take the first letter away from word family words to make new words. We brainstormed new -an and -ad words together.
- We went to the library with our 4th grade buddies to preview the Scholastic Book Fair. The Book Fair is open from 8-6 T,W, and TH night this week. If you send $$ with your child to purchase books during the school day, please remember to send a little extra for the tax.
- We practiced Read to Self. We were a little rusty, and I'm hopeful we can read the ENTIRE time for 20 minutes tomorrow.
- I introduced the counting on 1 and 2 addition strategy in math today. We practiced this by doing a workbook page independently and playing a counting on game.
- In science, we are continuing our unit on the weather. We watched a short BrainPop Jr. video about measuring the temperature with a thermometer. We also began observing and recording the weather on a daily record sheet. Finally, we read about clouds and the water cycle in our online science book.
