Hello! Welcome to our blog! This is our first post of the new school year. Please check our blog daily (or as often as possible) to see all the learning we are doing in first grade. You can use the information on our blog to help initiate conversations with your first grader about what they learned at school every day. I will also include upcoming special events and reminders on our blog.
REMINDERS/SPECIAL EVENTS:
- Your first grader should have brought home a MATH homework worksheet tonight. They need to show different ways to make 9 and 10. It is due when they arrive tomorrow.
- Tomorrow is our Heroes' Assembly at 9:30. We will be honoring police officers, firefighters, and paramedics at this very special event. Please encourage your child to wear red, white, and/or blue to school tomorrow.
- We were very busy at school today. Our literacy block included reading the story One Red Rooster, and we highlighted the color words in the book. I also introduced our new spelling words for Week 3 (go, is, the, make, play). Your student should have brought home their spelling list on the yellow paper today. Please let me know if you did not see it in your child's green Take Home folder. We practiced 3 of our Daily Five activities. We are up to 16 minutes when we practice "Read to Self"!! WOO-HOO!! Our goal is at least 20 minutes! For our Word Work activity, we did a Spell Check to make sure we know our beginning consonant sounds in first grade words. Finally, we practiced how to use the desktop computers when we "Listen to Read". We listened to and read Brown Bear, Brown Bear Who Do You See?
- In MATH we learned the difference between addition sentences that are written horizontally and vertically.
- We just finished our SOCIAL STUDIES unit on communities, families, and community helpers, so we took our Unit 1 test today.
- Our read aloud books were about firefighters and police officers.
